A number of publications have focused on Brooklyn, Illinois, its inhabitants, and the historical research that has been performed there. For example, Prof. Sundiata Cha-Jua at the University of Illinois provides an excellent, in-depth analysis of the documentary and oral histories of Brooklyn in America's First Black Town: Brooklyn, Illinois, 1830-1915 (University Press of Illinois, 2000).
