We have not yet excavated the interior of the privy. The image below shows why. This fine young rattlesnake slithered out from inside the privy onto the exterior west wall while I was photographing the structure in the summer of 2000. If appropriate, we will begin work on the privy after we have devised a way to relocate this resident to a new abode. In contrast to a certain fictional archaeologist, I like snakes.
