A Photographic Tour of the Site

We often encounter more recent features when excavating historic-period sites. The image below shows a so-called "french drain" buried 16 to 18 inches down in the soil of a unit in area 3 on the site map. This drain led from a nearby cistern water tank, and likely served to drain overflow water into the ground area. We will leave it intact and bury it to return it to its original configuration.
