Brooklyn Legend, Jimmy Green (government name) is the only son of Mother Earline Stidhum. In case you missed the blessed opportunity of attending an afternoon church service in which she sang, let me tell you, THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER! When Mother Stidhum walked to the front of the church and began to sing, the pianist had to catch up with her beat. Her singing invited the Holy Spirit into the church house! Jimi inherited ALL the family's vocal skills from Mother Stidhum. Jimi was born in Memphis, Tennessee. The family migrated to Brooklyn when he was four years old. He attended school in Brooklyn. At the age of thirteen, his vocal skills caught the attention of Mr Wedell Watson. Mr Wedell formed a band that included Jimi Green, Allen Jones, Herb Watson, Ivory Scott, Manuel Slaughter and Earl Hill Jr. Upon graduation, Jimi and Denver Moore Jr. enlisted in the Marines. They attended Boot Camp together, served in the same unit and were on the battlefield together when Denver drew his last breath serving our country. Jimi, along with many Vietnam Veterans was affected by the savagery and trauma of war. When he returned home, he embarked on his music career. Many of his original songs are on YouTube. Early in his career, he and George North teamed up. George was the promoter and Mcee. They opened for Howard Hewitt when he toured California. He and Wayman "King Hannibal" Warren later joined resources and talents. In addition to being lead vocalist for the Spirit band, Jimi campaigned for the youth in our community. Some of the young men he mentored back in the day, remember his words of encouragement. Jimi has retired and and lives a quiet life now. His health is not what it use to be but his mind is sharp. For those whose lives he touched, please drop a comment for him to read. Thank you Jimi "Sheik" Green for loving our village and youth.
