World Renowned Jazz Saxophonist Hamiett Bluiett resided on 4th St in an area that has been identified as Freedom Village. His property was among those where ITARP conducted the archeological field study which placed our Founding Families in that area in the early 1830's. His accomplishments and contributions to the genre of jazz are too many to list here. Bunny, as he was affectionately called in our village, developed a love for the baritone saxophone when he was merely ten years old. He was by far, the most successful student of George Hudson. Bunny credits Mr Hudson with mentoring and helping him develop his skills playing the baritone saxophone and clarinet. Hamiett was co-founder of the Black Artist Group, founder of World Saxophone Quartet, Clarinet Family, and Bluiett Baritone Nation. Among the many musicians he played with were Babatunde, Olatunji, Abdullah Ibrahim, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Charles Mingus and Sam Rivers.
