World renowned musician Albert King migrated to our humble village in 1956. He was considered one of tge greatest guitarist of all times (GOAT) by fellow musicians. He was credited with having mastered the skill of playing his guitar upside down when he taught himself to play the guitar, as he was left handed and guitars were designed for those who were right handed. His large statue (6 ft 7 inches) and smooth vocals earned him the nickname Velvet Bulldozer. He was inducted into the Blues Hall of fame in 1986 and posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame in 2013. He lived at 3rd and Short Street in our humble village. Valerie Douglas Howard remembers him well when she was a child. She recounts days when he would allow the children to sit on his tour bus and listening to him practice in his garage. He performed at Ike and Tina's Manhattan Club, The St Louis Symphony Orchestra as well our famous Harlem Club. There are several videos on YouTube that showcase his talents. Stevie Ray Vaughn credits Albert King as being an influence in his career.
